Organisers pleased with turnout for 2012 Evolution Fashion Show

Thousands of residents and visitors alike lined Church Street in Hamilton to watch the second Evolution Fashion Show on Saturday.

An estimated 150 models hit the 80ft catwalk specially crafted for the event in clothing from 23 retailers featuring hair designs by four local salons.

City of Hamilton Event Project Manager Danilee Trott said organisers “were more than pleased with the turn out”.

“Church Street was full of people as far down as Queen Street and people took great advantage of the additional screens and stood in city hall car park,” said Ms Trott.

“The thousands of people in the audience is a great indicator that this event is appreciated and supported by the local community and visitors to the island,” she added.

Representatives from Wilhelmina Models, a top agency in the US, were also on hand in hopes of discovering local talent. They were here at the invitation of Bermudian Darius Dayes, who models with the company under the name Darius Dio.

Ms Trott confirmed: “Wilhelmina Modeling Agency were very impressed by a few of our local models and will be sending me an e-mail later today with details of their selections.

She also said: “Capital G chose Orlando Lovell as the top male model and Ava Braddock as the top female model. Both were awarded $1,000 cheques for new bank accounts at Capital G,” said Ms Trott.

“Gibbons Company also chose models who have been offered one year modelling contracts for print, runway and commercial opportunities. Their choices included Samuel Bean, Melissa Fiddick; Terrae Samuels and Paige Bruton.”

The next big event will be held on August 5 featuring the best in Bermuda gospel music, the concert theme is “Lift Your Voices” and there’s also a City Family Festival slated to be held on August 19 in the City Hall car park.
